Hours of Work: Mon-Thurs; 7am-6pm.

The Ideal candidate will have a four-year degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, or closely related scientific discipline. Possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to perform routine and complex professional hydrologic data collection and analyses using appropriate scientific methods and established procedures.

Have fundamental knowledge of scientific data types and collection methods; relational databases including data-structure analysis, database development and design, data-access methods, and query language; programming and scripting languages and utilities; and basic web-design.

Possess strong verbal and technical writing skills and be able to present technical information in a clear, concise and timely manner. Possess knowledge of Colorado River Basin hydrology and reservoir operations; A basic understanding of Colorado River models, including model inputs and outputs; be able to process large data sets and report results in various forms; have a basic understanding of statistical hydrology.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs routine hydrologic work in the research, development and monitoring of aquifer quality and well performance data; and performs related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Principles, theories, techniques and practices of hydrology and water well production; mathematics and statistics; aquifer dynamics, hydraulics and chemistry; Nevada’s Safe Drinking Water Act; pumping systems, valves and pipe configurations; EPA sampling and preservation protocols.

Ability to:

Perform routine, professional hydrologic analyses using scientific methods and computer equipment; format and present data in a logical, understandable manner; operate and calibrate field measurement equipment; write clear, concise, complete and comprehensive technical and scientific reports; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; make oral presentations.

Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in earth science, hydrology, geology or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid Nevada driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
