The Ministry of Forests’ Compliance and Enforcement Branch (CEB) delivers a full range of compliance and enforcement activities, including education, promotion and compliance with regulatory requirements and conducting major environmental investigations. The CEB supports the management and delivery of compliance and enforcement activities in a manner that is timely, appropriate and consistent with the mandate of the Ministry.

The Integrated Enforcement Team (IET) provides advanced investigative expertise and compliance and enforcement services to various agencies within the natural resource sector in relation to major, complex or high profile issues that threaten environmental, public safety and revenue related values. The IET is deployed anywhere in the province based upon need.

This Water Resource Specialist position is the lead Ministry expert in providing professional advice, in the field of Biology, to IET and other Compliance and Enforcement Branch Staff regarding complex investigations under the Water Sustainability Act. The Water Resource Specialist may participate as a subject matter expert in complex investigations, led by Natural Resource Officer Investigators, and may act as an expert witness to provide testimony and present evidence in court hearings.

Job Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biologists (CAB). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six (6) months of employment.
  • Degree in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • Experience interpreting and applying environmental management legislation, regulations and policies.
  • Experience conducting public consultation processes dealing with environmental management issues.
  • Preference may be given to those with related experience in environmental compliance and enforcement.

This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests’ Compliance and Enforcement Branch offices: 100 Mile House, Campbell River, Castlegar, Chilliwack, Cranbrook, Dawson Creek, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Penticton, Prince George, Revelstoke, Quesnel, Smithers, Squamish, Terrace, Vernon.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
