Job Description and Duties

-Are you passionate about water resource management? Would you like to work with a multifaceted team utilizing existing and newly developed hydrologic datasets to analyze ecological instream flow needs for streams throughout California? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department) – Water Branch – Instream Flow Program (IFP) has an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the IFP’S Flow Implementation Unit. This position will work with a team of skilled Environmental Scientists to develop instream flow criteria using both desktop and field-based assessment methods as well as coordinate with Department programs and regions, stakeholders, and other state and federal agency staff to convey stream flow criteria information. This position provides the opportunity for professional growth, to gain a practical understanding of California water policy related to stream flow, and for the development of technical skills and expertise in hydrologic sciences. Working Conditions

Must be able to conduct office work involving use of a computer keyboard for several hours a day, usually sitting, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Must attend meetings in person and remotely to work with staff throughout the State. Must be able and willing to conduct seasonal fieldwork involving walking through stream channels in waders, hiking over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain, carrying heavy equipment to survey and/or sample locations, and working extended hours with overnight stays. Ability to swim required. Must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to operate a motor vehicle, and be willing to travel using a state vehicle. May be required to wear a uniform identifying the employee as Department staff. This position is eligible for hybrid telework consistent with current State and Department policies.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
