About the job
The ICRC Water and Habitat Department recruits Water and Habitat (WatHab) Engineers (a Civil-Hydraulic; an Electro-Mechanical; a Generalist) to be based in its Dnipro office. In close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the WatHab Engineer will mainly be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing engineering projects within the scope of the ICRC’s water and habitat assistance.
Start date: February 2024
Your Tasks and Responsibilities
- Draw up documents (drawings, bills of quantities, contracts, etc.) for engineering projects and monitor project implementation
- Supervise small numbers of contractors working on project sites and conducts quality control of infrastructure installed by the ICRC
- Create project files in electronic databases (such as the WatHab Project Assistant application) and keep them up to date
- Prepare implementation/progress reports
- Provide regular information to colleagues on security, stakeholder issues and site progress
- Manage project purchasing on labor and materials according to the ICRC’s financial rules
- Administrate hand-over of ICRC-provided infrastructure to end-users
- Train or organize training for end-users in the operation and maintenance of infrastructure installed by the ICRC
- Use results-based management to evaluate project implementation
- Help identify needs through assessments and surveys

About you
To be successful as a WatHab Engineer in the Water & Habitat Department, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:
- Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
- University degree in civil or structural or hydrological/hydraulic or electro-mechanical or electrical or mechanical engineering or geology or water resource management and similar
- 3-5 years of professional experience in a related field of activity
- Good command (spoken, written and listening) of English, Ukrainian or Russian
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
- Proficient use of Epanet or similar software (e.g., WaterCAD) and/or proficient in the use of mechanical and electrical drawing and calculation software is an asset
- Good knowledge of water, sanitation, construction, electro-mechanical engineering
- Experience in working with NGOs, INGOs, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and International Agencies is an asset
- Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
- Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
- Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
- Confidence in managing projects and staff
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
