Clean Water for NC seeks an idealistic and highly motivated person with diverse community and environmental/scientific experience to manage our organizational communications with members and the public through email, social media and our website, as well as to participate in our community outreach and organizing on Environmental Justice issues and some policy research on those issues. Issues on which we have been significantly involved in recent decades include air and water quality impacts of Contained Animal Feeding Operations (especially hogs and poultry;, coal ash contamination of groundwater; oil and gas and pipeline impacts on climate, air and water; toxic contamination of air and water by PFAS, lead, arsenic and other substances, privatization of drinking water supplies and regulatory failure to hold polluters accountable.
Daily activities will be highly varied, with some on-line research, some in person organizing and advocacy, some use of database for communications with members. Mentoring and staff meetings will be a combination of Zoom and in-person, with frequent, supportive and collaborative interactions during a work day or at pre-arranged times.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in environmental, health or scientific fields
Demonstrated commitment to social justice
Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic and listening)
Experience working in diverse community settings
Must be current North Carolina resident
Some flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
Driver’s License, good driving record and access to vehicle
