This position is a member of our Water Quality Planning Division.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • As a part of the division’s Surface Water Quality Monitoring team, our Aquatic Scientist IIII will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:
  • Conduct advanced work involving collections, assessments, reviews, and/or evaluations of the chemical, physical, biological, and hydrological characteristics of water bodies and/or water data for the Water Quality Planning Division of the TCEQ.
  • Design, oversee, and conduct complex assessment studies of aquatic systems including the preparation of project proposals, progress reports, and technical reports. Review, approve, and document the sampling and data analysis.
  • Analyze water quality data from field studies and statewide monitoring programs. Prepare assessment summaries and analyses for inclusion in technical reports and the Texas Integrated Report and assess and evaluate pollution impacts.
  • Plan and coordinate Surface Water Quality Monitoring (SWQM) activities of TCEQ regional offices and outside agencies, to include sampling and water quality monitoring. Assist the Team Leader in the administration of the SWQM Program for the regional offices and outside agencies.
  • Represent the agency in meetings with the pubic and the regulated community, and give presentations as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a natural science such as biology, zoology, wildlife/fisheries science, toxicology, environmental science, or a closely related field.  These degrees must include nine semester hours in statistics, limnology, ecology, hydrology, aquatic ecology, ichthyology, benthic ecology, wildlife biology, invertebrate biology, entomology, toxicology, phycology, marine science, aquatic chemistry, aquatic pollution, or aquatic microbiology, plus four years of full-time experience related to the examples of work performed.

   OR 

  • A bachelor’s degree plus six years of full-time experience in environmental activities related to the examples of work performed.

OR

  • A graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in biology, zoology, wildlife/fisheries science, toxicology, environmental science, or closely related field. This degree must include 18 semester hours in statistics, limnology, ecology, hydrology, aquatic ecology, ichthyology, benthic ecology, wildlife biology, invertebrate biology, entomology, toxicology, phycology, marine science, aquatic chemistry, aquatic pollution, or aquatic microbiology plus three years of full-time experience related to the examples of work performed.

OR

  • Career Ladder Progression: Two years of full-time experience as an Aquatic Scientist II at TCEQ.
