Description of Work Unit | Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.The Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE) was organized in 2006 to advance CSU’s engagement and outreach missions. OEE includes CSU Extension, CSU Extended Campus (including CSU Online), the Colorado Water Center and a variety of vibrant programs that engage the teaching, research, extension, and service missions of Colorado State University. The Vice President for Engagement and Extension (VPEE) is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE works collaboratively across all Colleges and offices on campus, and has strong engagement programs throughout Colorado, the Western US and globally. At any given time, OEE includes over 400 employees. The total of budgets is approximately $85 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. Propelled by OEE’s leadership, nationally CSU is a Carnegie Engaged University (2008, 2014), is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, is an APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity University (2016) and is highly ranked for its online degree programs. Annually, CSU Extended Campus garners enrollments of over 10,000 learners and CSU Extension delivers approximately 500,000 educational contacts.The Colorado Water Center (CoWC) is one of 54 Water Resources Research Institutes created by the Water Resources Act of 1964, collectively forming the National Institutes for Water Resources. As a division under Colorado State University’s (CSU) Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE), the Center aims to connect all water expertise in Colorado’s higher education system with research and education needs of the state’s water managers and users. The CoWC leads interdisciplinary research, education, and outreach activities to address complex and evolving water-related challenges in Colorado and beyond. Position Summary | The Colorado Water Center (CoWC) is developing a program to diversify and expand Colorado’s water workforce to better address current gaps and needs. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the CoWC team as the Water Workforce Program Coordinator, who will work closely with the CoWC Associate Director in developing and implementing the Water Workforce program. The coordinator must be able to take initiative and work independently, foster relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, plan and deliver outreach-related events, and execute community engagement and collaborative partnerships across the state.Success in this position requires the ability to interface and communicate easily with diverse organizations and stakeholders, and the ability to learn about services and structures of the CSU System to make effective connections between external partners and CSU. The coordinator is expected to work with the Associate Director to develop proposals for external funding to support development of the Water Workforce Program. The coordinator will also support the implementation and expansion of the Water Literate Leaders program, which furthers water workforce development by building water knowledge and networks among community leaders. This position requires prioritization among multiple projects, adaptability, effectively meeting deadlines, and handling the unexpected with professionalism.The primary office location is in Fort Collins, CO. While this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, the individual is expected to maintain a balance by establishing a presence in the primary office to effectively carry out the duties of the position. Work schedule will vary but some nights and weekends will be required. This position will include occasional travel within Colorado. The position is supervised by the CoWC Associate Director. |
Required Job Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus two or more years of experience with partnership development, community or stakeholder engagement, outreach, and/or facilitation OR six total years of equivalent work experience.One or more years of experience in project or program coordination.Experience writing grant proposals that have led to successful acquisition of externally sponsored awards.Experience with planning workshops, trainings, or events.Experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders.Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date. |
Preferred Job Qualifications | One or more years of experience in workforce development.Excellent writing and communication skills.Experience working in water or environmental education programs.Familiarity with CSU System’s colleges and programs and/or other educational programs across the state that serve the water workforce.Understanding of Colorado and Western US water systems, complex issues, and key stakeholders. |
