About this project
Open Call for Applicant-Devised PhD Research Projects
Funded 4-year PhD studentship to start in September 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, talented and enthusiastic researcher to conduct interdisciplinary research in order to advance thinking within the area of blue-green humanities.
We are pleased to invite applicants to submit a research proposal for our open call, for applicant-devised projects, in the Centre for Water Cultures. Your proposal should map to one of the Centre’s key research strands and fall within the following research areas (broadly defined):
- Water Cultures and Environmental History. We are particularly interested in receiving proposals with a particular focus on the medieval and/or early modern periods, or longue duree approaches, in the UK or Europe or in comparative global history.
- Water Cultures, Heritage and Environment. We are interested in projects that focus on community archaeology, heritage, and/or sustainability in the UK or in comparative perspective.
- Water Cultures and Digital Humanities including using mapping, data visualisation and/or virtual reality to explore the Centre’s key strands.
The PhD degree programme that successful applicants will be registered on will be confirmed on receipt of the research proposal and will be one of either PhD History, PhD Human Geography or aligned subjects. Please do include your suggested PhD degree programme in your research proposal, which will be subject to confirmation during the application process.
Writing a convincing and well-argued research proposal is an essential part of your application for this Centre of Water Cultures open call. We have provided some guidance notes that you can access here to help you in developing your proposal.
