Position Summary

O’Connor Environmental, Inc. (OEI) is seeking an entry to mid-level Hydrologist to join our small team of specialized experts working on a variety of water resource and habitat restoration projects in northern California and the Pacific Northwest.  The successful candidate will work closely with OEI’s Senior Hydrologist to compile, analyze, and interpret a wide variety of GIS and timeseries datasets and develop integrated surface water/groundwater and 2-dimensional hydraulic models to inform habitat restoration planning and design, mitigate flood hazards, evaluate sediment transport processes, and predict climate change impacts.  The position primarily involves remote analytical work with periodic meetings and field characterization and monitoring tasks.  We are open to candidates with a variety of levels of experience with the most important qualifications being some experience with numerical modeling and GIS, a meticulous attention to detail, solid organization, communication, and technical writing skills, and an inquisitive mind with a genuine passion for scientific investigation and problem solving.  Preference will be given to candidates located or willing to relocate within 60 miles of McMinnville, Oregon.

Desired Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Hydrology or related field
  • Licensure or desire/ability to obtain licensure as a professional geologist or engineer
  • Knowledge of basic hydrologic, geomorphic, hydrogeologic, and fisheries habitat principles
  • Proficient with a variety of spatial analysis tasks using ArcGIS
  • Experience managing and analyzing diverse spatial and temporal datasets
  • Experience developing, calibrating, and applying hydraulic models (MIKE 11, MIKE 21, HEC-RAS, FLOW 2D)
  • Experience developing, calibrating, and applying hydrologic, groundwater, and integrated surface water/groundwater models (MIKE SHE, GSFLOW, MODFLOW, HEC-HMS)
  • Experience writing scripts to automate data processing using Matlab, R, Python, ArcPy or other tools
  • Experience performing habitat restoration, flood mitigation, sediment transport, and/or climate change investigations
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a small project team
  • Ability to clearly communicate scientific information in oral and written formats to a wide variety of audiences
  • Experience conducting hydrologic, topographic, geomorphic, and hydrogeologic field investigations
