Missions
Since December 2020, following the publication of an instruction from the French Ministry of Health, a number of additional phytosanitary substances are analyzed as part of the sanitary control of the water supply. This list includes metabolites of pesticides, such as chloridazone desphenyl and chloridazone methyl-desphenyl – metabolites of chloridazone. It has been highlighted that the quality of water resources in the Hauts-de-France region is strongly impacted by this change in legislation. Thus 65% of the population would be concerned by non-conformities of their water distributed to the tap.
A scientific collaboration was initiated between the Physico-Chemistry of the Environment team of LASIRE (laboratory of the University of Lille and the CNRS) and SUEZ Hauts-de-France to tackle this issue. This project aims to quickly provide the necessary knowledge about the fate of the substances mentioned in the drinking water systems. Laboratory experiments to determine the reaction kinetics of the species will be set up. The results will be compared with the measurements carried out on different production sites in the region. The degradation by-products of the active substance and its metabolites will be researched and identified. This project will allow targeting treatments and establishing recommendations in terms of plant operating conditions to meet the major challenge facing the region.
Activities
– Determination of reaction kinetic constants of substances and reaction by-products
– Preparation and realization of sampling campaigns on industrial sites
– Processing of samples and analyses
– Data processing and valorization of the results
Skills
– Water analysis and treatment
– Liquid and/or gas chromatography and mass spectrometry
– Kinetics and/or reaction mechanisms
– Communication of results in internal meetings and conferences
Work Context
LASIRE is a joint unit of CNRS and the University of Lille. This research is part of the PESTO project financed by the ECRIN research project (Contrat Plan Etat RĂ©gion). The research will be mainly carried out within the team Physico-Chemistry of the Environment of LASIRE on the campus of the CitĂ© Scientifique in Villeneuve d’Ascq (lasir.cnrs.fr/pce/). Travel will be required in the Hauts-de-France region to SUEZ industrial sites (sample collection) and in the Paris region to the CIRSEE site (SUEZ group research center) (ozonation tests and LC-MS analyses).
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
