Position Details: Full-time, Permanent
Salary Range: Starting salary at $52,700, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual’s education and/or experience as it relates to the position.

What You Will Do
Working with DU BC’s energetic small team of biologists and engineering staff, you will help the team manage dams, water controls and habitat at DU wetlands in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region. The successful candidate will lead and direct a team of DU staff responsible for liaising with landowners and other project partners who control the lands on which our projects sit.
Additionally, you will carry out dam inspections and maintenance, and direct seasonal staff and contractors to complete these tasks. These are activities that appeal to you because you love a balance of office work and field work, and love to see remote parts of BC.
Forming and maintaining relationships with landowners, agricultural producers, project partners and contractors in remote communities will be key to success in this position. To this end, you are a friendly, effective communicator who is able to build positive working relationships.
You love working outdoors and have an aptitude for operating equipment and fixing things. You are self-motivated, organized, and can manage numerous projects simultaneously.
Experience and related knowledge in the local agricultural, forestry or mining sectors would be a strong asset to this position. Experience with land management, ATV/UTV’s, trailers, pumps, chainsaws and hand tools are also an asset.
Requirements
- A post-secondary degree or technologist diploma in a related discipline such as Agriculture, Environmental, Water Resources; or equivalent practical field experience will also be considered
- Minimum 2 years experience and knowledge of infrastructure maintenance, fleet management, and landowner outreach make you the ideal candidate for the position.
- Demonstrated experience working and communicating with landowners, partners or public service agencies
- A valid class 5 driver’s license
- Solid interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
- An understanding of local agricultural, industry or conservation practices
- Ability to work long/flexible hours, in remote locations, in a variety of weather conditions, with some overnight travel
- Experience using computers with MS Office software
- Experience operating various equipment such as: ATV/UTV, chainsaws, brush saws, pumps, and hand tools; or willingness to learn
Assets
- Experience managing contracts and contractors
- Experience with field navigation and/or data collection apps
- Experience with heavy equipment supervision & materials procurement
- Awareness of BC Occupational Health and Safety practices
- Understanding of the BC Water Sustainability Act & Dam Safety Regulation, and best management practices
