2 – Position description

The Faculty of Engineering, Department Hydrologie en waterbouwkunde, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a grant. 

More concretely your work package, for the validation of your doctoral research, contains: 

• Building and maintaining a framework for managing open data and open-source materials
• Providing support to large-scale model applications using supercomputing
• Developing & applying Internet-of-Things sensor technologies linked to cloud-based data repositories
• Providing expertise in the application of Artificial Intelligence
• Co-supervising PhD researcher

For this function, our Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) will serve as your home base. 

3 – Profile

What do we expect from you?

• You have a PhD degree in Computer Sciences with strong interest in water and climate research or a PhD in the domain of Water and Climate with strong computer skills.

• You express yourself fluently in English; 
  You are a team player and open to collaborate with researchers and students from VUB and other organisations.
  You are very skilled in programming, preferably Python
  Experience in AI is an asset

• You stayed abroad for at least 12 months of the 3 years preceding the start date, and during this period you did not work or study in Belgium. However, during these 12 months, short-term stays in Belgium are allowed such as holidays, participation in conferences or a short stay to prepare your stay as a postdoctoral researcher.

4 – Offer

Are you going to be our new colleague?

You’ll be offered a full-time postdoctoral scholarship, for 12 months (extendable up to max. 36 months, on condition of the positive evaluation of the research activities), with planned starting date 01/01/2024. 

You’ll receive a grant linked to one of the scales set by the government.
