Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Institute is a non-profit training and development organization dedicated to providing practical solutions to tackle a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues in India and the neighbouring countries. The WASH Institute headquarters are at Kodaikanal with branch offices in Munger (Bihar), Bhadrachalam 7(Telangana), Dindigul (Tamil Nadu), Kolkata (West Bengal) and New Delhi. The core activity of WASH Institute is conducting training programs to groom water, sanitation, hygiene and environment-sector professionals, as well as functionaries from the government, non-profit organizations and other agencies working in the WATSAN sector. Special focus is given to mid-level professionals who are directly involved in managing the programmes on ground. WASH Institute also possesses an academic wing that conducts formal courses in affiliation with the Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu. The two courses presently offered are a one-year PG-Diploma course in Environmental Sanitation Science or the Sanitary Inspectors Course, and a one-year certificate course in Capacity Building for Health workers. The organization also undertakes monitoring and evaluation, conducts appropriate action research and field study/experiments, and engages in advocacy in order to promote the importance of capacity building at all levels and influence other sector players and institutions to replicate successful models and strategies widely. WASH Institute has been providing Technical Assistance to Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs – MoHUA (for Urban program) and for Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (for Rural Program) under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Desired Qualification:
B.E / M.E (B.Tech / M.Tech) Environmental Engineering /Civil Engineering with 3-5 years experience.
Excellent computer proficiency and Ability to communicate effectively in English and Hindi or Regional languages, both verbal and written.
The Candidate should possess excellent computer skills in MS Office and relevant applications
Job Responsibilities:
• Support efforts to develop, identify, and provide solutions to implement innovations in sanitation technology and assist in developing DPRs, technical specifications and standards, especially around non-sewered solution, faecal sludge management and solid waste management at city levels.
• Liaison and closely coordinate with relevant officials from the ULBs/municipal water authority and other key actors.
• To collect and analyse data. Responsible for review and assessment of current system related to water and waste management aspects.
• Providing Technical Assistance and support to the landscaping exercise on the existing faecal management system and bring to fore key lessons to the envisaged in SBM-Urban.
• Supporting in Designing, developing and piloting innovative models to test its feasibility and scalability.
• Providing Technical Assistance and assistance in research on cost effective eco-friendly disposal system that fits for urban settings of Indian cities.
• Act as an active member of the knowledge management hub for the mission on Sanitation Business as well as faecal sludge management in urban areas.
• To support the project team in attending the meeting; discussion, stakeholder’s consultation workshops and presentation.
• Assessment of sanitation situation as per the SBM-U guidelines for better understanding of city Sanitation Plans and the methodology.
• Conduct and/or review technical assessment done by others, including O&M practices, market structure and governance framework for urban decentralized sanitation infrastructure in the targeted cities.
• Participate In development of O&M service packages and designing of O&M service- provider business model in coordination with relevant government agencies.
• Develop SOPs, tool-kits, model RFPs, concession agreements, and templates along with consistent application by ULBs as part of SBM implementation.
• Oversee development of capacity building program.
• Help organize service provider associations or networks to access information, finance and other necessary support.
• Undertake any other task as assigned by the Team Lead from time to time.
Experience required :
Relevant documented experience of minimum of 3 to 5 years in handling urban sanitation, Solid waste management, environmental issues etc. in the reputed concerns/organisations. Rich experience in Urban Sanitation is essential.
Experience in NGO/INGO sector would be an added advantage.
