WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The GEF Project Manager is part of the Global Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) team within Global Protect Oceans, Lands, and Waters program and will report to the Program Manager, PFP. The Project Manager is responsible for the management of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded Enduring Earth Project award and the development of future public funding proposals, as part of the broader Enduring Earth Partnership.
The Project Manager will oversee the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded Enduring Earth Project with the aim of accelerating sustainable finance solutions to achieve durable conservation. The GEF Enduring Earth Project will catalyze Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiatives in Gabon and Namibia, and help to design a multi-country, durable finance mechanism in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama) to advance the achievement of goals set under the Global Biodiversity Framework and other development objectives. Implementation of the project will be done through the Enduring Earth partnership with three different partners leading national-level implementation in each geography.
The Award Manager will bring a collaborative approach to project delivery, building strong partnerships and a continuous learning environment. Providing leadership to attain objectives, ensuring adequate communication with GEF and the Enduring Earth partnership. They will set the overall technical direction of the GEF project, monitor its implementation, and maintain strong partner, government, private sector, and NGO relationships with responsibility for ensuring the activity meets stated targets on time and on budget. They will have a deep understanding of GEF program requirements, from hands-on financial and agreement management and work plan development to performance monitoring and knowledge management.
This is a three-year term-limited position contingent on TNC receiving the public award and funder approval.

The Project Manager is responsible for overall award management and successful implementation including: program management, performance monitoring, and technical implementation and oversight. They will serve as the principal institutional liaison to GEF and WWF (as the GEF-accredited entity) regarding the project and will maintain regular communication with their representatives. They lead the project working team and serve as the principal contact to external project stakeholders, implementing partners, other project partners, and public ministries. They will ensure that the TNC-led project team coordinates activities with other Enduring Earth efforts that have complementarity with the project as well as the wider Enduring Earth initiative. The Award Manager will develop key partnerships with public and private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to advance the goals and results of the project. They will develop innovative methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the natural system and target community needs.
In addition to the current GEF award the Award Manger will also support the development of future public funding proposals for the PFP portfolio. They will work closely with Enduring Earth partners and TNC’s global, regional and country teams and serve as a key TNC informational contact for the GEF Enduring Earth Project and Enduring Earth public funding in general.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination.
- Experience leading complex projects or strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment.
- Experience researching, critically analyzing, and evaluating information from divergent sources and compiling it into cohesive reports and recommendations for strategy and action.
- Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.
- Experience presenting to and/or communicating with government or legislative staff, community or business leaders, program leadership and/or similar audiences.
- Experience with time management.
- Proficiency in English.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 5 years of experience leading and managing complex conservation or development programs and multidisciplinary teams in developing countries, preferably as a Chief of Party or Deputy Chief of Party.
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
- Experience managing a GEF award or in a senior GEF project management unit role.
- Prior experience with multi-donor funded operating procedures, regulations, and reporting requirements in conservation & biodiversity.
- Experience managing a major program or project of strategic importance, including management and supervision of multi-disciplinary teams and subcontractors, and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience managing consortia of partners across institutions (e.g., academia, NGOs, private and government) and varying sectors.
- Ability to write and speak in a language other than English, such as Spanish, Portuguese, or French, highly desirable.

SALARY INFORMATION
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $75,000-$112,500 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
