Details: Would you like to contribute to solving water quality problems in ACT urban and rural waterways? We have a team of catchment planning, behavioural change, social marketing and technical professionals that are writing plans for water quality and funding programs to prevent water pollution like the Leaf Collective. These activities that aim to combat urban stormwater pollution, which is driving persistent summer blue-green algal blooms, periodic spikes in faecal coliforms and excessive growth of water plants and attached algae in Canberra’s lakes and ponds. The plans also aim to align with other objectives for blue-green urban corridors such as mitigating urban heat, enhancing biodiversity and improving the wellbeing of local First Nations peoples.

Your role will be to lead catchment education, stakeholder engagement and behaviour-change initiatives within the Healthy Waterway program and contribute to the drafting of Healthy Waterways plans for several urban lakes and ponds.

You will also contribute to the development of plans and programs for addressing impacts of excessive sedimentation on the ACT’s rural rivers.

Eligibility/Other Requirements: Mandatory:

  • A degree or diploma of an Australian tertiary institution or a comparable overseas qualification—or equivalent experience appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Understanding of catchment processes, water resources, social marketing or the field of behavioural insights/change is an advantage.
  • A current ACT or equivalent driver’s licence.

Note: This is a temporary position available from 27 November 2023 Until 30 June 2024.A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. This position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
