EPRI is seeking a scientist or engineer to manage research in the Water, Land, & Groundwater group. Our group performs research to characterize and mitigate environmental concerns in groundwater and surface water at electric power plants. in particular, this position will focus on one or both of the following research programs. We are looking for energetic professionals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Research experience pertaining to characterization and remediation/mitigation of inorganic constituents in groundwater and/or surface water resources,
- Research experience with environmental issues associated with PCBs, PFAS, and nutrients in water
- Scientific/Engineering expertise in the fields of geology, hydrogeology, limnology, geochemistry, and/or environmental toxicology/remediation
- Accomplished technical oral presentation skills
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and technology transfer
- Experience managing a multi-faceted research portfolio

Education:
- Advanced degree in science/engineering required
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Management of one or more programs under EPRI’s environmental research portfolio, which entails:
- Working with advisors and stakeholders to understand priorities
- Providing oversight and technical guidance to internal staff and external collaborators to assure high quality research
- Overseeing research execution to ensure results are delivered on time and within budget
- Writing research reports
- Providing detailed and critical review of research reports
- Publishing research results
- Summarizing research results for stakeholders
- Presenting research results at EPRI and external technical meetings
- Following relevant research performed by other organizations through active engagement with outside research organizations and participation at technical meetings and forums.
Support EPRI’s broad research portfolio:
- Align program research with strategic objectives
- Collaborate with other researchers and research programs
- Develop new research initiatives to address emerging issues.
This position requires travel for internal meetings, visits to advisors, visits to research sites, and presentation of research results. Travel is primarily within the US, but there may be international opportunities.
Location:
Relocation is not required. EPRI offers a flexible working environment. This position can be based out of one of our offices, home based, or a hybrid between the two.
Ideal Candidate:
An ideal candidate in this role will have:
- At least 10 years of experience working on environmental issues related to the energy industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work on cross-functional teams
- Well-developed oral presentation skills
- A background in or willingness to learn and develop skills in a rapidly changing industry
- Experience working in the electric energy industry and an understanding of how electric energy companies operate
- Demonstrated technical expertise related to groundwater and surface water characterization and remediation/mitigation
- Experience managing budgets and schedules for a multi-faceted research portfolio
The salary range for this position is $136,425 USD to $184,575 USD annually.
This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
