Working with national and local governments, development partners and NGOs, ECOPSIS supports its clients to tackle the multiple dimensions of resilient services: the environmental context, including climate hazards, socio-economic conditions, institutional and financial arrangements as well as organisational capacity.

The Opportunity

ECOPSIS is looking for a mid-level or senior water and sanitation consultant (economics and finance specialist) to join its team. The position involves consultations, research, data analysis and report production. The consultant is expected to carry out project management and business development.

The role will involve inputs into a range of activities, such as:

  • Market assessments related to the above focal areas
  • Water sector financing ecosystem profiling (national and global)
  • Assessment and design of financing arrangements and instruments for water sector investments
  • Programme and projects design and evaluations
  • Financial analysis, projects appraisal and business case development
  • Policy and strategy development for water and sanitation services, as well as water resource management and waste valorisation

The successful candidate will also take part in general activities related to business development, communication activities, project management and administration. Specific tasks in these areas include:

  • Identifying relevant business opportunities (calls for proposals, requests for expression of interests)
  • Lead on proposal development

The Essentials

Qualification and experience:

  1. Master’s degree in a related discipline such as development studies, economics, public policy, water science, engineering, and environmental studies
  2. Minimum of 7 years working experience in the water, sanitation, wastewater or solid waste fields, with prior experience within a consultancy firm, NGO, development agency or research organisation.

Skills:

  1. Experience in economics and financial analysis of water and sanitation projects or other public services
  2. Experience carrying out projects’ financial appraisal
  3. Experience in advising government and development partners on financing strategies for the water sector
  4. Ability to take a lead role in report writing and a demonstrable track record in reports
  5. Able to work on projects in English and French (report writing, conversations with clients and stakeholders).
  6. Willingness to travel (up to about the equivalent of 25% of working time)
  7. Flexibility, self-motivation and excellent organisational skills
  8. Ability to work remotely

Great to Have​

  1. Additional language(s): Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, etc.
  2. Experience in an internationally active company (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Middle East and North Africa).
  3. Experience in management of service contracts.
  4. Experience in international tender procedures for consultancy services.

Location

The position is a fully remote working position. However, the successful candidate will be required to work either in Lausanne or London on a frequent basis as negotiated with the employer.
