WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Science Engagement Specialist (SES) will support The Nature Conservancy’s coral restoration team in fulfilling the goals of its U.S. Virgin Islands Coral Innovation Hub, including supporting the field and land-based nursery teams in the development and dissemination of innovative approaches to coral restoration and conservation. The SES will coordinate education and outreach efforts for the Hub, including community engagement. They will assist with aquaculture in the land based coral propagation facility as well as work with volunteers, visitors to the facility and student groups.
The Science Engagement Specialist will be responsible for implementing community outreach and educational strategies that effectively communicate TNC’s messaging around coral conservation and promote community education and involvement. This position will also provide support to the land-based coral nursery team, including routine coral husbandry tasks, coral health evaluations, day-to-day maintenance, and data collection required of the coral aquaculture facility. The SES will provide aquarist assistance on restoration tasks, and/or general assistance to program staff, partners, and visitors to the facility. This position will engage with the community as well as support visiting researchers working at the Hub. The SES will establish and develop cooperative relationships with local schools, universities, state and local agencies and corporations that are involved in environmental education to promote, expand and implement TNC’s educational initiatives.
Specifically, the SES will coordinate and run field trips for youth, tours of the facility, supervise volunteers and visiting students or researchers and host community events at the Coral Innovation Hub. The SES will implement the engagement strategy of the Hub.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 2 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience coordinating multiple projects.
• Experience in public speaking and education and writing and/or editing publications and related materials.
• Experience working in marine environment and knowledge of Caribbean marine ecosystems.
• Experience conducting educational programming or outreach activities.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in aquaculture or aquaria systems.
• Experience with public education associated with marine science or conservation projects.
• Experience working and living in the US Virgin Islands.
• Ability to work weekends for events.
• Experience snorkeling or scuba diving.
• Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
• Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
• Ability to organize time, manage diverse activities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to solicit program support through clear written communications, such as proposal writing and other written materials.

SALARY INFORMATION
The pay range for this position is $50,000 – 60,000 for annual base pay. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
