Role Description

We are seeking a Research Assistant in Hydrology to join our research team. The successful applicant will work on a NERC project examining the controls on runoff and erosion dynamics in rivers and on hillslopes in high intensity rainfall. This role will involve conducting hydrological research and carrying out laboratory work, fieldwork, and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, or geomorphology, excellent analytical skills, and experience working in the field or laboratory. This is a hybrid role with flexibility for remote working. The applicant will be expected to travel to field sites in the Peak District National Park.

  • Start date: Start of January 2024, but an earlier start date can be negotiated
  • Grade: 6
  • Hours of Work: Full-time for 5 months or part-time with hours spread over a 10 month period
  • Salary: £32,333 pa (pro-rata)
  • Tenure: End of October 2024

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience conducting laboratory work, fieldwork, and data analysis
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of analysing and visualising spatial data sets using appropriate software, such as GIS, Matlab, Python or R is an added advantage
  • Experience of writing technical or scientific reports and/or papers is an added advantage

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months

Salary: £32,333.00 per year
