Tesla is seeking a dynamic and creative Environmental Engineer and Water Protection Officer to join the Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team and lead environmental compliance for Gigafactory Berlin construction and manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Environmental Lead at the Gigafactory, he or she will be responsible for ensuring Tesla operates in permit and legal compliance with regulations during all phases of site operations. This position will also serve as the environmental subject matter expert and regulatory point of contact for the facility for environmental specialist topic. He or she will also be Water Protection Officer with a specialist focus on AwSV.
This position will be based in Berlin, Germany and will require some limited international travel (up to 10% of the time) to Tesla’s North American and EMEA operations
What You’ll Do
- Ensure Tesla operates in compliance with all applicable national, regional, and local environmental laws and regulations
- Contribute to identify, analyse, and track new and emerging environmental regulations and implement programs and procedures to maintain compliance in Water Protection AwSV topics
- Ensure construction and operations are complying with AwSV regulation (AwSV: Anlagen zum Umgang mit wassergefährdenden Stoffen)
- Coordinate risk assessment concepts for plants and machines with water hazardous materials (AwSV Konzepte)
- Maintain AwSV-facilities cadastre (AwSV Kataster)
- Review and provide feedback on new processes and equipment design and validate it complies with environmental regulations
- Support of all environmental permitting efforts (air, waste, water, hazardous materials)
- Perform site inspections to verify compliance
- Interface with regulatory authorities and oversee regulatory inspections
- Interface with and coordination of external consultants for steering projects
- Tasks as assigned Water Protection Officer with specialist focus on AwSV
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or a closely related EHS discipline; alternatively the equivalent in experience.
- Experience and trainings in the area of AwSV topics
- 4+ years of experience managing environmental compliance (water protection) programs for manufacturing facilities and/or construction projects
- Strong technical knowledge and skills implementing and complying national regulations at a large manufacturing facility
- Previous experience serving Water Protection Officer (“Gewässerschutzbeauftragter”), OR the ability to meet the minimum qualifications within 6-months
- Evidence of exceptional ability and demonstrated success managing environmental compliance programs
- Fluent in German and English (verbal and written)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
