Senior Research Analyst
Job Description
The mission of the Kyl Center for Water Policy is to promote research, analysis, collaboration and open dialogue to foster consensus on sound water stewardship for Arizona and the West for generations to come. The Kyl Center realizes this mission by disseminating research and convening policy discussions on water challenges and potential solutions.
Under the direction of the Kyl Center director, Advisory Board members and others, the Senior Policy Analyst will have an integral role in conceptualizing and implementing policy initiatives of the Kyl Center, managing and conducting research and developing communications related to water and natural resources policy. This role requires knowledge of Arizona water policy and management, excellent communication skills, strong research skills and the ability to interface effectively with funders, policymakers and key stakeholders. The successful candidate will be skilled at project management and consensus building.

Essential Duties
- Build, sustain, and enhance relationships with water policy-makers
- Cultivate relationships with funders, academic and industry partners and policy-makers to engage them in substantive partnerships
- Collaborate with key stakeholders and influencers in policy initiatives to improve water stewardship
- Design, coordinate and conduct research on water policy issues, including collecting documents and compiling and analyzing data from various sources, conducting qualitative surveys, leading focus groups and synthesizing key findings
- Write research-based reports, briefs and blogs that effectively communicate to target audiences and the public
- Assist in editing written work of the Kyl Center for Water Policy
- Develop and implement work plans for research projects
- Select, hire and supervise interns
- Attend water policy-related events
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field AND three (3) years of experience in research, information analysis or program evaluation; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Master’s degree or higher in relevant field
- Professional experience in western water policy field (10 years)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Arizona water law and policy
- Experience in project management skills
- Experience writing and editing for a variety of audiences
- Experience in translating complex water-related concepts and data for lay audiences
- Experience in grant writing and management
- Experience in public speaking skills
Working Environment
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting. Communicate with staff and general public. Use of MS Office applications. Frequent/constant sitting on chair at desk or work area.
