What is the opportunity?
This full-time position is responsible for leading capacity development initiatives on solar powered water systems (SPWS). The role will include delivering in-person and virtual training and consulting support on SPWS and building and coordinating a team of trainers and partners to do the same. The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering, training, and project management and practical experience implementing solar powered water systems in the Global South. They will also be a gifted teacher with experience in supporting delivery of online and in-person courses and leading participatory, hands-on training in a cross-cultural context.
International travel is a key part of this job and is anticipated to be up to 40% of the time (likely 6 trips annually at 1-3 weeks per trip). Domestic travel 1-3 times per year may be required with a duration of 2-5 days.
This position is either based at the Global Water Center headquarters in Charleston, SC, or remote.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as an in-house expert in solar powered water systems (SPWS) aiding in training material development and quality control of third-party content.
- Coordinate and deliver in person and virtual training on SPWS in cross-cultural environments.
- Provide technical assistance to partners, including review and feedback on engineering designs for SPWS projects
- Manage other SPWS trainers
- Work within cross-cultural environments with humility with an intentional focus on overcoming stereotypes and language barriers.
- Work simultaneously on multiple projects and ensure work is done with excellence within an agreed upon scope, schedule, and budget.
- Maintain good communications with multiple partner organizations and team members across multiple countries and time zones.
- Look for strategic opportunities to grow, fund, and develop income streams for SPWS training.
- Represent the Global Water Center’s brand to external audiences including potential funders, partners, subject matter experts, training partners, and training customers.
What is required?
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 5+ years of engineering experience
- 2+ years of experience designing and installing solar powered water systems
- Proven experience delivering engaging in-person and online training
- Cross-cultural communication skills
- Experience working in a low or middle-income country
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Proficient in MS Suite, Google Suite, and Engineering tools including EPANET and AutoCAD, etc.
- Experience managing courses within a Learning Management System preferred

- Fluent written and spoken English required
- Fluent written and spoken French or Spanish is an asset
