Background:

Water stress is a critical issue caused by the growing demand for freshwater resources combined with the impacts of climate change. Water stress poses significant challenges to the sustainability and well-being of communities. This is also exacerbated by factors such as population growth, erratic rainfall, and agricultural demands.

FH India is commencing a study on water stress aims to generate valuable insights into the causes, consequences, and solutions related to water stress. The study will contribute to the development of effective strategies for sustainable water management and help mitigate the impacts of water stress on communities and overall ecosystem. The study will employ a multidisciplinary approach to gather comprehensive data and provide valuable insights into addressing water stress challenges.

Objectives of the study:

This study aims to investigate the causes, consequences, and potential solutions for water stress in the region. By examining factors such as water security, quality, quantity, topography, geo-hydrology, community groups, gender dynamics, and rainfall patterns, the study will generate valuable insights to inform sustainable water management strategies.

• Assess the extent of water stress in Malanpur, Bhind, focusing on water security, quality, and quantity indicators. Examine the local topography and geo-hydrological characteristics to understand their influence on water availability and accessibility.
• Investigate the socio-economic and environmental effects of water stress on communities, with a particular focus on the role of community groups and gender dynamics.
• Analyse historical rainfall data to identify patterns and trends in order to better understand the impact of climate variability on water stress.
• Investigate the root causes and drivers of water stress in Malanpur, Bhind, Madhya Pradesh
• Assess the socio-economic, environmental, and health impacts of water stress on communities, ecosystems, and economies.
• Identify innovative technologies, policies, and practices for sustainable water management and stress reduction. Develop strategies for effective water resource allocation, conservation, and resilience building in water-stressed regions.
• Suggest way forward to raise awareness and promote community engagement in water conservation efforts.
• Develop evidence-based recommendations for effective water resource management and mitigation strategies.

Position summary:

Field Assistant will play a pivotal role in supporting the Principal Investigator and research team in conducting fieldwork, data collection, and data analysis for a comprehensive study. Field Assistant will assist in various aspects

of the study project to ensure its successful execution and contribute to meaningful insights into water resource management.

Key Responsibilities:

Fieldwork and Data Collection:

• Participate in field surveys to collect water samples, conduct water quality assessments, and gather relevant environmental data.
• Record accurate and detailed field notes and maintain data logs during field visits.
• Assist team in setup of required technologies and instruments in hydrological data collection, such as rain gauge, groundwater monitoring wells, and streamflow measurement devices.

Data Entry and Management:

• Assist in organizing, entering, and managing collected field and laboratory data using appropriate software and databases.
• Collaborate with the data analysis team to ensure data accuracy, quality, and consistency.

Data Analysis and Visualization:

• Assist in data analysis tasks, including basic statistical analysis and visualization using software such as Excel, GIS tools, or statistical software.
• Contribute to creating graphs, charts, and maps to help visualize research findings.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
• Contribute to the writing of project progress reports and research publications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Hydrology, Geology, Biology, or a related field.
• Practical experience in field data collection, laboratory work, or environmental monitoring is desirable.
• Proficiency in using basic data analysis tools (e.g., Excel) and GIS software.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work well within a team and adapt to changing field conditions.

Location and Duration:

This position is based in Malanpur, Bhind, Madhya Pradesh with frequent field travel. The contract duration is 5 months.

COMPENSATION

Compensation levels at FH India are equivalent to market rates within the development sector. However, offers shall be based on salary history, relevant experience, qualification and budgetary provisions under project.
