Position Summary:Villanova University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department seeks applications for a continuing non tenure track research faculty position. The Department is looking for a geotechnical / water resources engineering faculty member that will work with and extend the research of the Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems. Expertise in areas complementary to the existing faculty is sought and can include: geotechnical and water resources aspects of urban stormwater, erosion and sediment transport, uncertainty in water resources applications including climate change adaptation; open channel and surface water systems and infrastructure; watershed health; groundwater protection; hydraulic barriers; and water resources planning and management.Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian order. Duties and Responsibilities:The individual will aid in research activities related to the Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems (VCRWS) research. The individual will be responsible for project execution and management. They will oversee data analysis, and present research findings in written reports and oral presentations to funder, project partners, and the scientific and broader community. They will also prepare manuscripts for submission to referred journals using existing and new data sets.This research faculty member will pursue research funding and write proposals, as well as participate as a member of PhD and master’s thesis advisory committees. All candidates must be willing to work closely with center faculty as well as with undergraduate and graduate students.The individual will serve as a Manager / Coordinator of the Departmental Geotechnical Research facilities to include: laboratory safety policies, inventories, equipment use scheduling, research quality control, trainings, and provide general guidance to student users of the laboratory facilitates.
Minimum Qualifications:A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely aligned discipline is required (must be completed at the time of hire).
Preferred Qualifications:An ideal candidate has field and laboratory research experience; work experience in the consulting field is a plus.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:Physical requirements include the ability to travel and work on field sites, to stand for several hours at a time, and to lift objects greater than 50 lbs. Individuals must be willing to work outside standard office hours as demands of the job dictate.
Special Message to Applicants:The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has excellent infrastructure to support scholarship, including fluids, water resources, soils, environmental, and structural laboratories, computational research facilities along with the Stormwater Green Infrastructure Research and Demonstration Park. Additionally, a large expansion to the College of Engineering Center for Engineering Education and Research building is underway that will provide new undergraduate and research laboratories more than doubling the current research space. The successful candidate will be expected to support and expand the current research activities of the Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems, and manage the geotechnical research facilities. These responsibilities include all aspects of managing laboratory and field safety, as well as providing research training and quality control support. This position is contingent upon VCRWS research grants and resources.
