As part of the continued growth of our services, ERM is looking for applicants at a Consultant Level to join the growing Water Services team. As a developing specialist, the consultant will be expected to provide advisory or technical services to our clients as part of the technical water team. The candidate will work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision, solving problems based on practice and precedent, whilst acquiring higher level knowledge and skills. The water team provides a range of services from strategic water risk assessments, development and implementation of corporate water strategies to technical water resources planning, assessment and management projects. These projects are conducted across all sectors including mining, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas and more.
Our water team is involved in projects globally, and we count some of the world’s leading companies as our clients. This is an opportunity for a developing water professional to be involved in diverse projects.
Responsibilities
As a consultant within the team, you will be responsible for:
- Delivering or coordinating projects or whole elements of larger multidisciplinary or global projects.
- Understanding the inter-relationships between ERM services and policies and how these are applied within the clients’ business model.
- Establishing strong working relationships with clients through project delivery.
- Making use of effective working relationships within the business unit and participate in global technical communities to ensure strong network of resources.
- Remaining up to date with external market and client industry trends.
- Sharing expertise and knowledge within the business unit and/or global practice area.
- Understanding how work of the project team and or practice community contributes to ERM’s success.
- Adhering to all ERM and client requirements, specifically those related to H&S and governance.
- Supervising subcontractors during fieldwork, ensuring they comply with ERM’s Health & Safety policies and ABC code, and work is completed in line with project scope.
- Applying client/sector know ledge when carrying out tasks associated w with drafting project deliverables and or proposals.
Technical abilities:
The candidate should have demonstratable experience in:
- Reviewing specialist reports or other literature sources and being able to identify and extract information relevant to the water environment;
- Supervising field studies and interpret the collected data, including hydrocensus, geophysical surveys, drilling, aquifer testing, and water chemical analysis results;
- Compiling conceptual groundwater flow models;
- Experience in numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling will be an advantage;
- Experience in water stewardship projects will be an advantage;
- Experience in the mining industry will be an advantage; and
- Technical report writing.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- 2- 3 years’ experience with all relevant fieldwork in the consulting sector;
- Honours in Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Engineering, Water Science or related field (MSc. preferred);
- Willingness and availability to travel locally and internationally as needed on a project basis;
- Able to work within a diverse, integrated team, or individually under guidance;
- Effective and professional communication within ERM, and with clients;
- High proficiency with standard industry software tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office suite, GIS).
- Valid driver’s license; and
- Valid passport.
Physical and mental requirements include:
- Ability to communicate frequently with clients and co-workers and share information effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in both office based and remote environments.
- Strong research, conceptual and analytical skills – both quantitative and qualitative.
- Self-motivation with an ability to work independently.
