The Water, Fisheries and Coastal Policy & Planning Division brings together program areas responsible for the Watershed Security Strategy and associated Fund, Wild Salmon Strategy, and Coastal Marine Strategy. It works to support functioning and resilient marine, aquatic, and coastal ecosystems that support a diversity of economic activities and provide the foundation for vibrant and thriving coastal communities and cultures.

The Water Quality Science Specialist provides expertise and leadership in water quality science and assessments, and the development of water quality objectives. This position participates on technical advisory teams and collaborative water governance initiatives with First Nations, and provides scientific advice for the sustainable stewardship of watersheds. The position also provides expert support to source drinking water risk assessments, watershed planning, and regional water quality issues related to water quality assessments and monitoring activities.

Job Requirements:
Education:
•    Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences other acceptable natural resource field, and 2 years’ directly related experience; OR
•    Undergraduate Degree in Biological Sciences, Water Resource Management, Earth Sciences, Environmental Studies, or other acceptable natural resource field and 3 years’ directly related experience.
•    Registered as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in BC, with the College of Applied Biology; or eligible for registration within six months of employment.

Experience:
•    Experience planning, assessing, and coordinating programs or initiatives associated with water resource management and aquatic ecosystems.
•    Experience conducting scientific research or studies related to complex water resource management and/or environmental topics and issues, particularly those associated with the analysis of biological and water quality components.
•    Experience providing technical and scientific expertise, advice and recommendations to senior management, external stakeholders and others with respect to biological and/or water quality issues.
•    Experience preparing a variety of detailed and complex documents (for example, scientific studies, technical reports, statistical analyses, briefing materials, etc.). 
•    Leads collaborative processes with Indigenous partners to achieve program or project objectives.

Proviso
•    Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the Ministry.
•    Possession of a valid BC driver’s license in good standing.
•    May conduct field work that may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, occasional overnight and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
•    Field work typically involves carrying equipment and supplies in difficult terrain while meeting WorkSafeBC standards.

If you are not yet registered with the CAB, please explain how you are immediately eligible (i.e. currently a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the CAB).
