Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Water Protection Program, and will be located at 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking an Environmental Program Specialist to work in the Water Protection Program, Watershed Protection Section. This position will be a watershed coordinator for EPA Section 319 Nonpoint Source (NPS) Implementation projects.
What you’ll do:
- Coordinate, engage, and interact with watershed partners and stakeholders.
- Conduct NPS watershed planning, presentations, and outreach and education efforts.
- Participate in watershed activities associated with project and/or partner activities.
- Explain land management practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Initiate efforts to work collaboratively with a group of stakeholders with diverse backgrounds, culture and perspectives to facilitate and lead various projects, engage partners and leverage resources.
- Establish and build productive relationships by interacting with others in ways that enhance mutual trust and commitment.
- Seek new partnerships to facilitate the goals of the nonpoint source program
- Identify leverage and funding opportunities to maximize the water quality benefits within a watershed through the implementation of various land management that address the water quality concerns
- Coordinate and/or track partner and stakeholder nonpoint source activities occurring throughout a watershed
- Utilize GIS mapping, watershed models or water quality data to track water quality trends over time
- Coordinate closely with grant recipients and others to ensure projects proceed successfully to completion.
- Monitor progress of assigned projects, identify and resolve issues, and ensure projects progress successfully in a timely manner.
- Meet with applicant to discuss funding requirements and project development.
- Communicate frequently with applicant by phone, electronic correspondence, and in person, if able, as necessary throughout the course of the project to assist with fulfilling all grant requirements.
- Attend project meetings, as necessary, to present pertinent information relevant to the success of the project.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, technical principles and/or practices applicable to assigned projects.
All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
- Preferred degree program would include the following: Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Geology, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, or a closely related field
- The ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.

- Strong background and experience in water resources issues and topics.

- Use of Microsoft Office and general knowledge of office equipment.
- Experience in conducting facilitated group and stakeholder meetings.
- General knowledge of project management including time management, basic accounting and budgeting, purchasing, and other procedures.
