Job description
Do you want to see water companies do more to protect the environment? Do you believe that Environment Agency regulation could be better and should continuously improve? Can you turn plans into environmental outcomes? If you can answer yes to these questions, then we want to hear from you!
We’re looking for someone to manage our Improving Water Industry Regulation Team to drive our organisation forward on its journey towards becoming a world class regulator.
You’ll join the team at an exciting time where our purpose is to continuously improve all aspects of Water company regulation. Our current work areas include incidents, storm overflow & flow compliance, enforcement, training and regulatory strategy.
As the Improving Water Industry Regulation Manager, you’ll support, lead and champion a high performing team of experts, helping to turn game changing ideas into reality. You’ll present a compelling case for change at every opportunity, working across the organisation from practitioners on the ground to Executive Directors, our CEO and Chair. Externally you’ll work with a range of key stakeholders including water company Directors, OFWAT, Defra and eNGOs.
In addition to being an inclusive people leader, you also enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, working on multiple priorities at any one given time. You will be an integral part of the leadership team for Environment & Business Water Industry Regulation, delivering great outcomes and value for money while exceeding customer expectations.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
We’re part of the Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate which supports the Environment Agency by using evidence, expertise, and innovation to enhance and support delivery, influence policy, legislation, and secure resources. We steer the direction, set the priorities, and shape our organisation’s approach to deliver environmental outcomes and better regulate.
We’re a dispersed team and use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, but some travel and overnight stays may be required
Experience/skills required
You’ll have the drive, enthusiasm and determination to deliver an excellent service for your customers, seeking out opportunities to improve what we do and driving solutions through to outcomes. In particular you’ll have:
· Experience of working alongside and influencing senior leaders
· Ability to challenge others to think differently
· You will be responsive and flexible to changing priorities but have emotional intelligence and resilience, and a collaborative “can-do” attitude.
· Excellent communication and influencing skills – you’ll be able to identify your audience, understand their needs, and use an effective and engaging style of communication.
· Ability to harness a team or group of people to deliver results on time, to required standards in line with organisational processes
· Experience of water industry regulation.
You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
