Corporate Underwriting is responsible for the risk management function for underwriting risks as well as the cross-divisional business support function to enable and ensure risk-adequate underwriting in the global reinsurance segment. The Geo Risks section is responsible for creating and evaluating natural disaster risk analysis models and the assessment of natural-catastrophe damage. In this challenging and varied environment, we want to grow our team and are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is motivated by NatCat modelling.

Your Job

  • Producing internal flood risk models and evaluating external flood risk models
  • Developing and applying innovative approaches for natural-hazard rating and risk assessment, and actively supporting underwriters in traditional and non-traditional reinsurance
  • Consulting and training Munich Re staff and external clients regarding flood-related questions
  • Initiating, shaping and implementing research collaborations with leading scientific institutions and professional consultants
  • Producing post-disaster loss estimates and evaluating losses from large disasters for deriving, updating and/or checking the vulnerability functions in Munich Re risk models or external models; conducting or participating in reconnaissance missions/loss inspections after major disasters/losses

Your Profile

  • University degree (and, if possible, doctorate) in hydrology/civil or environmental engineering
  • Several years’ experience in and specialist knowledge of natural-hazard modelling (river flood, precipitation, storm surge), scientific programming and GIS
  • Several years’ professional experience in natural-catastrophe risk analysis in the financial sector
  • Good project management skills, preferably acquired in complex, interdisciplinary project teams
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed ability to work in a team, as well as excellent presentation skills and client focus
  • Good knowledge of probabilistic and statistical methods
  • Very good command of English language (written and spoken)
