Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.

We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for a Somalia Officer to support the Climate and Environmental Peacemaking projects within Peace Practice and Innovation (PPI) unit.

You will

Project coordination

  • ​Coordinate an international team, acting as the main liaison officer
  • Provide administrative support to management and operations, including contracting, logistics, and others
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures, ensuring transactions are correctly recorded and submitting advice and planning as requested
  • Draft narrative reports on time and to grant specification, including a description of results at output, outcome and impact levels
  • Develop project communications content for external and internal purposes, including but not limited to fact sheets, training material, presentations, social media, blog posts, and derivative products
  • Support additional ad-hoc tasks as necessary

Project implementation

  • Contribute to delivery or project results, including implementation of activities and outputs in line with the Theory of Change and results-based management approach
  • Provide support to the team in Somalia
  • Lead workshop organisation and implementation
  • Document progress and context monitoring, project evaluation and learning, ensuring compliance with work plans and agreements

Programme research and analysis

  • Support mapping of programmes and projects related to peacebuilding, environmental governance, and climate change adaptation implementation in Somalia’s five Federal Member States
  • Support an integrated climate and conflict analysis in Somalia
  • Support scoping of work and integrated programme design

Your skills and experience

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in political science, peace and conflict studies, environmental or climate science, and relevant discipline.
  •  Minimum of 3 years of relevant programming in fragile and conflict-affected countries is a requirement.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience on the environmental and climate dimensions of peace and security is a requirement.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in project coordination is a requirement.
  • Experience employing Results-Based Management implementation strategies is an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in Somalia is an advantage.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent coordination and organisation skills.
  • Analytical thinking, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement, other languages (Somali and Arabic) are an advantage.
