Scottish Water is expanding its modelling activities to support the understanding of our Water network performance. We currently have several fixed term Water modeller positions available and would like to attract candidates with varying abilities to support Water modelling activities.

These roles will see you develop, deliver, and promote the hydraulic modelling services to colleagues in the business. To contribute to a dedicated team that has good relationships with all key stakeholders and keeps abreast of industry leading techniques.

These positions will allow you to be part of an exciting and developing team which has a strong technical input into many Scottish Water capital projects as well as enhancing current asset performance knowledge.

In these positions you will be expected to liaise and support the Modelling Team leader to support and deliver the team workloads within the boundaries of the Scottish Water vision.

Key Accountabilities/Tasks:

  • To produce Hydraulic Modelling Team outputs through collaborative team working and contribute to good team performance.
  • To liaise / support team leader with asset management colleagues and others to deliver agreed business drivers and requirements.
  • To provide Hydraulic Modelling Services deliverables required to meet priority business requirements.
  • To contribute to the continuous improvement of models, by maintaining regular dialogue with colleagues, seeking their feedback, and incorporating this into team improvement.
  • To develop and produce business papers, presentations, dashboard reports or tools to ensure that the conclusions of hydraulic modelling work are understood and used by others.
  • To support in the development and promotion of the Hydraulic Modelling Team Strategy.
  • To represent Scottish Water at key industry meetings and conferences.
  • To keep up to date, review and embed key relevant developments in the water industry and academia. To encourage personal development.
  • Support a variety of SW (Scottish Water) transformation activities

Those candidates with previous modelling experience will be within Band B (salary range £35,384 – £47,924)

In addition to the above tasks, you will also bring the following skills/knowledge:

  • 3+ years’ experience of applying a wide range of hydraulic modelling techniques in a business setting or in a research-based role within a university or equivalent setting
  • Leading and coordinating projects to deliver quality outputs on time.
  • Be able to lead on communication with management on project issues as well as any stakeholders 
  • A proven ability to deliver issued work packages and projects
  • A proven ability to structure business problems and translate model outcomes into business intelligence that can easily be understood and used by others who have limited experience of hydraulic modelling techniques.
  • Competent in using InfoWorks WS Pro or similar modelling software and teaching others to use it.

Desirable skills/knowledge:

  • Project management skills
  • As part of our internal transformation work, skills with Ruby / GIS Scripting skills would be highly advantageous.

Those with no, or limited, experience in hydraulic modelling, will be considered roles for within Band C (Salary range £31,380 – £43,350).

Essential skills/knowledge:

  • HND /Degree in relevant discipline such as Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a Scientific /Numerical based degree and have an interest in environmental issues.
  • Ability to communicate well on technical matters and be a good team player.
  • An ability to investigate complex problems in a methodical manner. Be able to deliver work to agreed timescales.
  • To be computer literate and numerate.
  • Confident user of Office software packages such as word and excel 

Desirable skills/knowledge:

  • Project management skills
  • As part of our internal transformation work, skills with Ruby / GIS Scripting skills would be highly advantageous.

Ideally candidates would be central belt based but Scottish Water will consider other locations within Scotland.

The normal working hours for this role are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays).
