1. Context
Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (JSCF) is registered in India as a not for profit company under Chapter 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. JSCF, is an associate member of WaterAid International and uses the brand name ‘WaterAid’ in India.

WaterAid India’s (WAI) country office is based in New Delhi with State Offices in Bhopal, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Patna and Lucknow. We currently work in 11+ states across the country.
WAI’s Programme focus in the next five years is on ensuring that communities – especially low-income families – are WASH secure i.e. with assured access to safe drinking water at the household level; with safely managed sanitation’ institutions such as anganwadi’s, schools and health care facilities with adequate and appropriate WASH infrastructure and with good hygiene behaviours. We seek to do this through demonstration and the provision of technical and knowledge support to governments at all levels who can facilitate this adoption on scale.
2. Role and responsibilities:
The Specialist – Hygiene, Behaviour Change and WASH in Institutions will work closely with and report to the Director – Policy and Technical Support Unit and be involved in all aspects of the unit. Under the overall supervision and guidance, the Specialist will:
- Support all project management tasks and lead all logistical and administrative tasks
- Lead the planning and implementation of all national and State level consultations for Hygiene, WASH in Institutions
- Support the intervention implementation teams to ensure that projects are delivered as planned, monitored,
- and documented thoroughly
- Support on a research studies and documentation on menstrual health and hygiene, Hygiene, and WASH in Institutions across Indian States
- Support the conduct stakeholder consultation, collate evidence and write strategy papers on menstrual health and hygiene in the contexts of emergencies, disability and on the links between menstrual health and hygiene and sexual and reproductive health.
- To provide support in developing technical standards, designs, technical notes, briefs, manuals etc.
- provide all necessary inputs for ensuring compliance with various reporting requirements to the donor, and lead the writing of monthly project updates and quarterly progress reports
- Work on any other themes like drinking water, sanitation, etc. as per the need of the organization.
3: Qualification/ Experience:
WaterAid India is looking for a competent individual, with following strengths:
- Minimum post-graduate level education in any of the relevant fields such as social work, gender/ women’s studies, public health, environmental sciences etc.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in relevant fields (e.g., menstrual health and hygiene, women’s health, Hygiene, WASH)
4. Others:
- A strong understanding of WASH including menstrual health in India
- Experience working on WASH at a programmatic level in India. Specific experience on aspects related to capacity building, behavior change, menstrual health, will be an added advantage
- Experience with project management, including project tracking/progress monitoring, budget tracking
- Understanding of and experience with research (literature reviews, qualitative studies [key informant interviews] and quantitative surveys [cross sectional surveys])
- Experience working with State Governments on hygiene, health, and/or WASH
- Strong writing skills essential, with experience of being the lead author of documents
- Fluency in English and Hindi. Regional language will be an added advantage
