The Environment, Heritage and Sustainability Division is a branch within DEW that develops and delivers policy and action that protects built and natural heritage, supports climate change adaptation and mitigation, delivers a resilient Adelaide, establishes arrangements for landscape management, and partners with boards and councils to deliver their strategic objectives.
The Green Adelaide branch are currently looking for a passionate Waterway Ecologist to join their vibrant team. The Waterway Ecologist is responsible for facilitating urban waterway (including wetland) restoration and management programs and projects, and providing scientific and technical advice, to assist with strategic landscape enhancement and management works across Green Adelaide. The Waterway Restoration Ecologist also works with other Green Adelaide ecologists and Landscape Operation staff and external stakeholders, providing water-related professional input to a range of programs and projects in the region.

Essential Qualifications:
A degree in ecology or applied science relevant to waterway management and restoration, or broader natural resources management, is essential
Special Conditions:
- Out of hours work may be required
- Must hold a current drivers licence
- May be required to participate in fire management or associated duties
- May be required to participate in biosecurity emergency response
- May be required to undertake Authorised Officer training under the Landscape Act
Remuneration:
PO3 – $98,313 min – $103,936 max p.a.

Applicants are to submit a pre-employment declaration, CV and letter of application (max. 3 pages) addressing the Technical, Professional/Knowledge and Experience (including qualifications) as outlined in the Role Description. Please ensure that you address the following in your application:
- A degree in ecology or applied science relevant to waterway management and restoration, or broader natural resources management
- How do you maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the scientific principles and methods relating to waterway management, particularly in an urban setting.
- How do you maintain a working knowledge of waterway ecosystem biodiversity, key waterway ecological processes and waterway restoration
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse stakeholders to identify shared objectives and design and deliver co-funded programs or projects that achieve outcomes for all stakeholders
- Can you provide examples of how you demonstrate skills and experience in project management, ranging from developing briefs and assessing tenders, managing contractors, implementing and overviewing on-ground works, reporting, budgeting and financial management
- How do you demonstrate effective communication skills, with the ability to write fluently, conveying complex information in a way that will be easily understood. Adept in presenting information in forums ranging from project meetings through to larger industry and community-based audiences
