THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The incumbent in this position performs a variety of professional duties within the Moshannon District Office in the Bureau of District Mining Operations. Duties center on improving water quality within targeted watersheds impacted by Acid Mine Drainage (AMD). This position reports to the District Mining Manager and is responsible for a wide variety of tasks relating to the development and promotion of watershed management. Duties will also center on improving water quality for Alternate Bonding System (ABS) Sites; acid mine drainage discharges on bond forfeiture sites; contract execution and oversight of bond forfeiture reclamation projects; Trust Funds; and oversight of contracts for treatment of AMD discharges included in the contracts. Work is assigned in the form of program objectives and will require the employee to exercise extraordinary initiative with considerable freedom allowed in planning, scheduling, and completing the work.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Philipsburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
 Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Seven years of experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, or resource conservation which includes three years of experience in a professional capacity; or
  • Three years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, or resource conservation and a bachelor’s degree in biological or environmental science, environmental protection, resource conservation, engineering, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes three years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, or resource conservation. 

Necessary Special Requirement:

  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
