Consultancy for the regional project Sustainable Water Management for Food Security (SaWeL)

Caritas Suisse is seeking a consultant project manager for the regional project Sustainable Water Management for Food Security (SaWeL) implemented in Mali and Ethiopia. This three-year project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), is set to conclude on September 30th, 2023. The project is implemented by a consortium of international organizations under the lead of Wetlands International (WI). CACH is responsible for the implementation of one project in Mali (Lac Wegnia). Another project in Ethiopia is implemented by CACH and WI together.

Your duties

  • Ensuring the completion of remaining project activities
  • Provision of technical and thematic backstopping to the Ethiopia and Mali team (such as MEAL indicator compilation, etc.) 
  • Promoting knowledge sharing between the different projects and consortium partners by documenting the project’s approaches and lessons learned from the project implemented in Mali and Ethiopia 
  • Coordinating the final evaluation and administrative project closure (i.e. audit) of the project for both Mali and Ethiopia
  • Drafting and finalizing the final reportings for donors, for both Mali and Ethiopia
  • Supporting and accompanying operational project closing activities in Mali and Ethiopia, and if required, physically attend closing activities in Ethiopia
  • Ensuring the administration and operations related collaboration and communication interface with the consortium project lead WI on behalf of CACH 
  • Keeping the CACH member of the supervisory board informed on ongoing developments. Coordination with the supervisory board member of CACH for strategic questions. 
  • Representing CACH regionally and at international level 
  • HR: supervise and support team members; help to create and maintain a conducive work environment (Mali) 
  • Networking with other actors in the water and food sectors, ranging from government and private actors to civil society and academia 
  • Developing concepts and thematic strategies and articles for different audiences
  • Designing a new proposal for the next phase of the project 
  • As the overall project lead in Mali, the Consultant Project Manager will also play a crucial role in facilitating communication and knowledge sharing between the projects in Mali and Ethiopia, as well as between the regional teams and HQ

Our requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject 
  • More than 10 years’ experience in international cooperation, including at least 5 years in a senior project management or advisor position 
  • Proven expertise in project management 
  • Thematic expertise on Sustainable Water Management and/or Food Security issues 
  • Excellent networking, communication and team building skills 
  • Track record in collaborating with private enterprises along value chain development 
  • Experience with public-private partnerships 
  • Extensive experience working with government and private actors, especially in the field of sustainable water management and/or food security 
  • Excellent French and English language skills

Your place of work will be Bamako, with travels in country and in Ethiopia

Contract duration: 15 July 2023 – 31 December 2023, 80 days max. (consulting contract)
