Position Description

We are seeking an Senior Aquatic Restoration Project Manager to join our team. This position will manage and lead project and business development efforts across New England, but with a geographic focus in New York and Western New England. The ideal candidate will have experience and education in a core discipline relevant to water resources restoration, with either:

  • a focus on water resources engineering

OR

  • A focus on riparian and plant ecology, aquatic ecology, wetland science, fisheries biology, hydrology, or fluvial geomorphology

In addition to managing projects and leading business development efforts, the candidate must be able to assist in various aspects of technical project work including data collection, analysis, design, and implementation of river, estuarine, and wetland restoration projects.

Work Schedule

This position will be expected to be in the Cambridge, Massachusetts office at least 3 days a week, Monday – Friday. Employees may elect to work from home up to 2 days a week if and when job duties allow (e.g., field work and in person meetings take precedence). Occasional long work days and some work on weekends may occur.

Job Qualifications  

  • Postgraduate degree in a core associated discipline and 7-15 years of work experience with river, stream, estuarine, wetland and/or floodplain restoration projects.
  • A postgraduate degree in a related field may count towards work experience.
  • Full professional licensure or certification (i.e. Professional Engineer license, Licensed/Professional Wetland Scientist, etc.) in one or more disciplines.

Job Requirements

  • Experience managing multiple small to large-sized projects, including preparation and management of scopes, schedules, and budgets from proposal submittal through completion of the project.
  • Experience building and leading teams to deliver projects, including meeting technical, schedule, and financial targets.
  • Excellent delegation skills and ability to communicate clear expectations to project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, teaming partners, diverse stakeholder groups, and the general public.
  • Experience completing technical elements of restoration projects such as fieldwork, data analysis, design computations, and construction observation.
  • Experience in one or more software programs used for analysis, communication, and design, including Autodesk Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, Excel, or hydrodynamic modeling platforms.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for up to 7 days at a time for projects. Typical travel is of shorter duration, but longer periods of travel may be periodically required.
  • Ability to effectively self-manage your time to balance multiple deadlines/commitments.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of issues of aquatic restoration from a non-white perspective (for example, Indigenous, Black, and/or Latinx relationships to water and place).
  • Experience leading the business development component of a new area of pursuit, such as a new client group, geographic area of work, or a new type of project.
  • Published work or contributions to the body of knowledge relevant to discipline.

Essential Duties

  • Project management tasks including:
    • Scope, schedule and budget preparation.
    • Leading project teams and meeting technical, schedule and financial targets.
    • Delegating, and providing clear estimates of hours, deliverables, and timelines expected to be met.
    • Attending internal project management trainings.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to apply current principles and practices in their field of expertise.
  • Maintains broad knowledge of Inter-Fluve’s functions, staff, and values in order to make informed decisions that benefit the company and its people.
  • Lead large field data collection efforts, perform advanced science and engineering analyses, lead design discussions, make design decisions, and lead the preparation of reports and design sets.
  • Perform internal peer review of documents, analyses, and deliverables for quality assurance.
  • Serve as a mentor (formal or informal) for other staff.
  • Attend and present at conferences.
  • Responsible for timely completion of administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense reports, and invoice review for projects they manage.

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $95,000-$115,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This position will remain open until filled. Inter-Fluve cannot support international work visas.
