About the College of Science and Engineering

At the College of Science and Engineering we believe in the power of science and engineering to solve real world problems. We strive to advance fundamental science, to create new technologies, and to work across discipline boundaries. Our interests scale from the sub-atomic through to entire oceans, forests and beyond. We seek to understand the past, but also to create the world of the future. Our College is an exciting place to research, study, and work, supported by best practice teaching methods, practical work-related learning, and advanced facilities.

About the Role

The College of Science and Engineering is seeking a Lecturer in Hydrogeology to contribute to the quality research and the planning and delivery of undergraduate/post-graduate teaching and short course training to external industry delegates in the hydrogeology discipline.

The teaching aspect will focus on the development of innovative and inspiring teaching materials and multi-mode teaching delivery, including face to face, online and other contemporary teaching and learning strategies, whilst ensuring that you enhance student experiences and support students with any academic challenges.

Concurrently, the research component of this position will involve the numerical modelling of mining environments and the development of pit lakes following mine closure. This may involve flow, transport and/or reactive transport stimulations.

To be successful as the Lecturer in Hydrogeology, you will:

  • Make high-quality contributions to research in groundwater modelling and mining hydrogeology, through quality publications, contributing to external grant submissions and research student supervision.  This will be funded through the Australian Research Council and the CRC for transition in Mining Economies.
  • Organise, plan, deliver and evaluate teaching primarily within the suite of undergraduate and/or postgraduate topics. This may include topic coordination, delivery of lectures, tutorials and laboratories.
  • Design, develop and deliver external professional development courses for the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT) industry training program in consultation with the Centre Director.

About You

As the Lecturer in Hydrogeology you will have sound technical skills in numerical flow and/or transport modelling and experience in scientific programming. You will have excellent communication skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders including industry and professional associations.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate:

  • A Completion of a PhD in Water Resources Engineering, Groundwater, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources or an equivalent qualification.
  • Evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area aligned with research strengths in hydrogeology, including evidence of quality publications and ability to attract external competitive grants.
  • The ability to undertake high quality teaching in a tertiary environment, including involvement in topic coordination.
  • Broad knowledge of Australian groundwater issues and the capacity to interact with and contribute positively to a broad range of the research activities of the NCGRT and more generally the earth and environmental sciences staff in the College.
