Job description
Here at the Environment Agency we take care of nature and people. One of our exciting areas of work is understanding how much water is present in our rivers and under the ground; our team of Hydrologists use the most modern tools and techniques to make this information available. This is truly an amazing science.
We have a terrific opportunity for someone to be the Team Leader for this team which covers Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The role of our Team Leaders is to look after a small team of people covering the coordination and delivery of work plus an oversight on budgets and delivering through others. We are a diverse organisation and champion equality, diversity and inclusion.
If you have a love of leading people and a real interest in the natural world then we would love to hear from you. If successful, you would be part of the Environmental Monitoring, Analyses and Assets Leadership Team which will take your life experience to the next level. We are an inclusive and kind team; people often say, ‘we like working here because of the support and great team spirit, the people are lovely’. We are flexible on where you live but being in Devon and Cornwall would be a great advantage.
Our Team Leader roles come with a complete development package, and you can be assigned a mentor to assist you in your early months. It is helpful if you have a good level of IT skills as most of our communications and reporting is done online. This has the advantage of allowing some home working which helps flexibility with your personal life.
The team
There are 5 people in the Hydrology Team based across Devon & Cornwall. We have a mixture of Technical Specialists & Officers in the Team who provide a phenomenal service to our business on water quantity information. Our staff work from our main Offices at Bodmin & Exeter with a mix of homeworking as well. We recognise everyone is different & we will do what we can to balance business delivery with personal working patterns.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for someone who has an understanding or technical background in water quantity / hydrology and also wants to be a leader of people in the Environment Agency. We are a kind team and spend time ensuring everyone develops for the good of themselves and nature. We would like to hear about how you have been involved in leadership outside of work including your involvement with clubs, volunteering or just family life.
The successful person will be part of our leadership team which cuts across all the activities in our department. We need someone who enjoys bringing out the best in people and having fun whilst at the same time delivering benefits which make a real difference.
