This Opportunity
WSP USA has an immediate opening for a Project Director to support the company’s growing Sustainability, Energy, and Climate Change (SECC) Division. See wsp.com/advancing sustainability for a description of our team and capabilities.
The individual will lead client-facing teams in the design, implementation, and management of organizational sustainability programs, with demonstrated focus on water stewardship, particularly identifying, investing in and tracking progress against water replenishment, access and sanitation projects. The ideal candidate will have the flexibility and capacity to work on a wide variety of projects and the demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams. Candidates should be passionate about sustainability, self-motivated and self-directed, collaborative, and able to produce high-quality work products.
Preferred location of the position is San Francisco, CA, San Diego, CA, or Portland OR. Other potential locations include SECC offices in Arlington, VA, New York City, NY, Bethlehem PA, Buffalo NY, Chicago, IL, and Boulder, CO.
Your Impact
- Lead the design, development and implementation of public and private water stewardship programs, demonstrating experience in the following areas:
- Reduction of water use on absolute and intensity basis
- Development of direct and indirect water footprints
- Identification and recommendations for replenishment programs for water use in high priority locations Provide solutions for people for access to water and sanitation services
- Consider data collection innovation and digitization
- Engage in water policy, in public and private settings
- Provide project management for a broad array of sustainability tasks
- Develop opportunities for integrating water stewardship elements into organizations’ strategic sustainability roadmaps
- Technically evaluate and implement water stewardship strategies for business and/or municipalities
- Design and deliver water stewardship performance metrics, targets, and accompanying strategies and achievement plans
- Support business development activities with existing and prospective clients
- Manage client relationships
- Engage in thought leadership through public speaking and technical publications
- Support strategic development of team approach and capabilities for water stewardship services
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, environmental studies, engineering, energy or sustainability
- 7 to 10 years of experience managing projects for a diverse pool of clients from the private, public, and non-profit sectors
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, maturity, credibility, confidence, and integrity
- Familiarity with corporate and commercial real estate facilities management practices
- Demonstrated thought leadership and participation in industry associations focused on water stewardship
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and use of programs including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to develop and present analyses using programs including Microsoft Excel, Access, and Power BI
- Ability to collaborate remotely across geographies and platforms
- Highly capable self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in public policy, environmental studies, engineering, energy or sustainability
- Essential professional licensure/certification.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $76,400 – $155,900
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $79,100 – $151,500
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
