Posting SummaryThe Rutgers CEE Urban Informatics lab & The Infrastructure Resilience Group at Rutgers Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) invite applications for a postdoctoral associate position.The position is in the area of urban-scale mapping and modeling of coastal communities with applications in flood vulnerability assessment, drainage modeling and analysis, and flood risk mitigation and communication. The successful candidate will lead research activities related to high-resolution flood modeling and simulation, and artificial intelligence powered flood detection and modeling.The successful candidates will report to Dr. Jie Gong at CAIT and will work in the Rutgers Urban Informatics laboratory, a state of-the-art lab equipped with advanced remote sensing systems such as UAV, mobile, and static lidar systems, infrared thermography cameras, and drones as well as with advanced computing, simulation, and visualization capabilities. Systems such as CAVE (an immersive visualization facility) and GPU clusters are available for data intensive research. The candidates are expected to contribute to research projects funded by various federal funding programs such as NSF (Smart and Connected Community, CoPE, Future Works), FEMA, HUD, and DHS.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and ExperienceThis position requires a PhD in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or related engineering fields. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following topics: flood modeling and impact analysis, deep learning powered flood prediction, storm water management, and catastrophic modeling due to flood and hurricanes. Experience with SWMM, ADCIRC, SLOSH, and other hydrodynamic simulation programs is desired. Coding skills with python, JavaScript, or C/C++ is a plus. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Coastal Marine Science, Geography, or other related fields.This position requires good communication, technical writing and presentation skills, and a strong proficiency in office applications. Ability to manage, document, and organize multiple simultaneous projects is key. Requires occasional travel within United States for data collection and to attend meetings/conferences/etc. Both candidates must have strong skills in planning and organizing, information integration, decision-making, and attaining results. The ability to conduct research, compile data and formulate reports and deliverables on a consistent and timely basis are critical. Must be able to think broadly and conceptually and formulate creative, sophisticated solutions to complex problems, prioritize workload, and work independently with general supervision.

StatementThe initial appointments will be for 12 months. The remuneration and benefits are competitive, and commensurate with qualification and experience.
