The location for this role is Majuro, Republic of Marshall Islands. The Fisheries Research Assistant will work from a home office and in the field.

WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Fisheries Research assistant to help carry out fisheries sampling and data limited stock assessments for coastal fisheries in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). Tasks will include working with local fishers to sample harvested fishes including species identification, enumeration, size, and the collection of biological samples through the dissection of harvested fish. The Research Assistant will collect data with partners in RMI and local fishers and maintain accurate data records including entering data into software such as Excel or other databases. They may assist the team with data analysis tasks and the utilization of TNC developed fisheries stock assessment tools with collaborating agencies and will serve as a coordinator between TNC and government and other partner NGOs in RMI. Additional duties include participating in capacity building events, aFAD fisheries development and community engagement meetings. The Fisheries Research Assistant reports to the Sustainable Fisheries Director and works in collaboration across the entire Micronesia & Polynesia Program to ensure tangible, sustainable conservation outcomes across the region.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree in natural resources; environmental studies or equivalent combination of education and 6 months’ experience
- Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources
- Fluent in verbal and written English and Marshellese
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
- Field experience, including coral reef fish identification and working with community members
- Ability to assist with program budget development and monitoring
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment
- Time management skills
- Data entry experience
- Familiar with MS Office, including Excel
