Job description

You will be the water quality lead in the Analysis and reporting team. This means you will lead on:
• Designing and having ownership of water quality monitoring programmes for the area, including reviewing existing monitoring points and determinants
• Investigating Water Framework Directive WQ failures and doing this in a collaborative and holistic way
• Work closely with our citizen science lead and ensure we are making the best use of citizen science data
• Collaborating with other WQ experts to provide expert guidance and advice in area and to national colleagues
• Analysing WQ data and providing appropriate level reports and information depending on the customer and the question

The team

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Analysis and Reporting team in the North East of England. This is a small team, working hard with colleagues and customers to create a better place by protecting and enhancing diverse habitats and wildlife. The Team monitors and assesses the environment, providing a wide range of information on water quality, fish populations and ecological status to client teams across the Environment Agency and to external organisations.

Experience/skills required

We are seeking an Environmental Scientist with extensive knowledge and practical experience of Water Quality data and monitoring programmes, including statistical analysis and interpretation of data. You will be proficient in understanding and describing how the varied aspects of Water Quality can impact and influence the aquatic ecology of our watercourses, be able to devise integrated monitoring programmes and analyse and report water quality data.

You will have a degree or similar in a relevant discipline, with demonstrable skills in water quality data interpretation and analysis.

You should also have:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence a broad range of customers
Excellent motivation and adaptability in delivering priorities
The ability to build, develop and nurture relationships
A track record of collaborating with others to deliver shared priorities
Demonstrable skill and experience in leadership and mentoring.
