Pay Range Information | Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage. |
Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary | Manage an academic environmental hydrology lab, facilitate, and conduct independent research. Conducting research will be an integral part of the position. The research will involve a wide range of computational methods (HPC, machine learning, GIS, statistical analysis) to investigate the changes of water cycle in the western United States. Work will be conducted in computational laboratory using various modeling and programming tools |

Responsibilities | Conduct independent research in environmental hydrology related to the supervisor’s principal research. Duties include but are not limited to:Gathering, compiling, and organizing large climate, water, and hydrologic data setsAnalysis modeling of data based on science questions.Spatial analysis and mapping of data for specific science questions Literature search, reading, summarizing, and integrating into scientific manuscriptsOversee lab operations. Duties include but are not limited to:Assisting graduate and undergraduate students Organizing group meetings; disseminating notes from group meetings Assistance with granting reporting requirements Other administrative tasks associated with researchPerform other duties as assigned. |
Required Qualifications | Doctoral degree required.Strong analytical skills including programming, data science and GIS.Experience with ability to prepare scientific graphs using software such as spreadsheets.Research experience in an appropriate field with preference given to candidates with a degree in hydrologic, climate, data science or computer science or related field.Completed courses in data science.Completed courses in climate science and hydrologyStrong analytical and organizational skills.Ability to learn/operate computational resources and debug programs.Writing skills to summarize research findings and integrate into scientific manuscripts.Communication and interpersonal skills to interact and work collaboratively with other researchers. |
