Faculty Positions in ATREE’s Water Programme

ATREE invites applications for two faculty positions in its Water, Land and Society Programme, housed within the Centre for Environment and Development.

  1. Hydrologist: Biophysical water scientist trained in one or more of ground and surface water hydrology, crop-water estimation, with experience in field data collection and modelling skills.
  2. Social scientist: Economist, anthropologist, sociologist or political scientist or interdisciplinary social scientist studying behavior of water users (farmers, industries, households), institutions of water management, pollution regulation, and broader questions of land-water policy and governance.

Common Qualifications: Candidates must be dynamic and highly motivated scholars, with a PhD in natural/ physical/ engineering sciences or the social sciences respectively. The applicant is expected to have at least 2 years of post-PhD research experience, with a strong track record of academically rigorous but socially relevant research in the water sector. Applicants must have a strong interest in applied research in the developing country context, a willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams, and the ability to teach courses and guide students in sustainability studies at the Masters and PhD level.

Responsibilities: Core faculty members are expected to participate in long-term academic, policy and action oriented research programmes that address important issues in the water sector. They will participate in Masters and PhD teaching, advising and short-term training programmes. Faculty members are also expected to share institutional responsibilities and contribute to fund-raising.

Appointments and Emoluments: Appointments will be at the level of Fellow (equivalent to Assistant Professor) or Senior Fellow (mid-level Associate Professor) depending upon candidate’s experience. The positions are long-term; appointments are on 5-year renewable contracts. Salaries at ATREE are competitive and at par with other academic institutions in India. The positions will be based in ATREE’s office in Bangalore.
