The Queensland Government is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Water Officer to join its Wide Bay and Burnett team of professionals responsible for managing the state’s water resources. As a Senior Water Officer, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategies that ensure the sustainable use of water resources across Queensland.
In this role, you will be responsible for analysing water resource data, developing and assessing water plans, documents within the water planning framework, and providing advice to other government agencies, stakeholders, and the public on water-related matters. You will work collaboratively with other professionals, including hydrologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and legal experts, to ensure that water management strategies are based on the best available science and adhere to relevant legislation and regulations.
Key responsibilities of this position may include:
• Assist with the development of water plans, supporting instruments and other water planning documents in line with Queensland Water Act 2000 requirements.
• Liaise with technical experts from various disciplines to inform development of water management solutions and policy.
• Undertake desktop research, data collection, interpretation, and analysis to inform the assessment of a range of water management and policy issues.
• Assist with consultation with internal and external clients.
• Assist with preparation of policy papers, briefing notes, Cabinet submissions, Governor -in-Council documentation, and other correspondence as required.
• Contribute to analysis and interpretation of existing National and State Government strategies, policies and legislation in relation to efficient and sustainable management of Queensland’s water resources.
• Contribute to a positive team culture by supporting team members and sharing information.
To be successful in this role, you will need a degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, hydrology, or engineering, along with experience in water resource management, water planning, or related fields. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals are essential. A deep understanding of Queensland’s water resources and relevant legislation and regulations is also highly desirable.
