The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the Sanitation and Hygiene Team to develop an Information Management System (IMS)for WASH in Schools Global Programme and contribute to the priorities in the teams’ 2023 annual workplan. In particular, the intern will collect data from different sources including annual global and country reports, Country Strategic Indicators, analyze the data and produce graphics and maps on implemented WinS programme activities to be used for planning and advocacy purposes. The Intern will also support in knowledge management of WinS Share Point pages, Yammer Community of Practice and WinS ASH in schools website- https://www.winsnetwork.org/ to strengthen learning and exchange of ideas, experiences, knowledge and skills amongst UNICEF staff and WASH in schools partners. This exchange will help enhance WASH in schools programme design and delivery at global, regional, and country office level.

How can you make a difference? 

Main duties & tasks

  • Provide support to the WASH Specialist to develop an Information Management System for WASH in schools and collect, collate, filter and clean, analyze and synthesize the data and interpret trends on patterns in data sets on programme implementation in countries.
  • Support the development of tools and methods for data collection to inform the IMS for WASH in Schools programme at global.
  • Help prepare graphics, maps on implemented WinS programme activities to be used for planning and advocacy purposes.
  • Assist the WASH Specialist to promote and maintain the WASH in school’s websites by posting up to-date resources on the website and curating it; facilitate and support knowledge exchange and experience sharing through the Yammer Community of Practice with the aim of galvanizing WASH in school’s network members to contribute and engage effectively. This includes posting of publications, tools, articles, updates on Yammer and responding to questions from partners and practitioners submitted to the community. Prepare periodic analytics on Yammer usage and the WASH in schools website usage and compile critical programming issues for follow up. Support maintenance of WASH in schools SharePoint pages.
  • Support the WASH Specialist in the organization of global webinars and disseminate webinar summaries/ reports.
  • Provide support to any other duties related to WASH in schools projects assigned by the WASH Specialist

Duration: 26 weeks

Stipend: A monthly stipend of 1,700 USD will be provided by UNICEF

Work Modality and environment: Hybrid (Full time, remote and in person when needed)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • University undergraduate specializing in Education, Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Social Sciences, or another related field, or recent graduates with specialized skills in the above areas of education.
  • Complementary training in related areas is an added advantage- such as skills in computer programming, development and or website design desired.

Minimum requirements:

  • Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an undergraduate school and has completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree (if the candidate is 18 years old, this replaces the two-year bachelor’s completion requirement); or, Graduate Degree Program (i.e., Master’s, PhD).  It should also state the expected graduation date.  Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion.
  • Copy of their most recent official transcript showing excellent academic performance
  • Copy of Identification Card (ID)
  • One letter of signed recommendation on letterhead or from professional email address

UNICEF will not cover costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start the internship.

Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for international positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
