The Hunter/Central Coast Branch of the Department of Planning and Environment is currently seeking to appoint a Coast and Estuary Officer to join our Environment & Heritage Group division.

The Coast and Estuary Officer works with local councils and other stakeholders to manage coastal hazards and improve the health of estuaries and coastal environments. Also, noting that the Hunter/Central Coast is the only coastal region in NSW with an Environmental Water (EWA) allocation in a Water Sharing Plan, the Coast and Estuary Officer will assist with the management of this EWA to improve the health and resilience of the coastal environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of coastal zone (estuary and coastal) processes and natural resource management issues within the coastal zone with experience in data collection, analysis and report writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of coastal zone management policy and practice including relevant legislation, guidelines, and policies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of coastal zone risk and/or estuary health assessment methods and management strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Environmental Water management.
  • Appropriate degree level tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, marine biology, natural resource management or related discipline.
  • Current Driver License – class C
