Job Description
This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funds.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct climate change, carbon sequestration, and agricultural water management research using carbon/eco-hydrologic/climatic/crop models.
- Assist in field and laboratory experiments to quantify the carbon sequestration potentials of different ecosystems under selected soil amendments.
- Develop/collect input datasets for the models, which include in situ and remote sensing.
- Develop manuscripts and external/internal grant proposals.
- Participate in extension and outreach activities as needed by the program.
- Work in collaboration with other researchers in CARC.
- Assist undergraduate and graduate students and research technicians.
- Assist principal investigator and co-investigator as needed.
- Support achieving the university’s commitment to teaching, research, and service excellence.
- Lead research in carbon dynamics and extensive field experiments, with potential applications to carbon modeling, climate forecasting, and water resources management.
- Assist the principal investigator in ongoing research projects (experimental and modeling) related to eco-hydrology, remote sensing, and field experiments.
- Assist with the data downscaling, prediction, evaluation, and impacts of land use/cover changes on eco-hydrologic processes, irrigation, and nutrient best management practices for sustainable use of natural resources.
- Provide leadership and participation in in-situ data collection and analysis for modeling.
- Assist in writing research reports, manuscripts, and grants; present results at scientific meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Educations & Experience
- A Ph.D. in earth science, eco-hydrology, civil engineering, geosciences, agricultural engineering, or any other relevant academic field emphasizing carbon dynamics, climate change eco-hydrology.
- No prior experience necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in eco-hydrologic, carbon, and crop modeling
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong quantitative and programming experiences in R, Python, C, C++ and/or comparable languages.
- Strong numerical modeling and analytical and statistical skills.
- Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in earth science, eco-hydrology, civil engineering, geosciences, agricultural engineering, or any other relevant academic field emphasizing carbon dynamics, climate change eco-hydrology and its impact assessment, and natural resource management
- One to three years of related work experience.
- Considerable experience in carbon dynamics, climate change, spatial data analysis, laboratory analytical techniques, field research design, and project implementations at different scales (field and watershed).
- Interested in carbon modeling, downscaling of climate projections, and crop modeling
- Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and experience preparing grant proposals.
