Junior Sediment Dynamics Modeller

Deltares

Delft, Netherlands 🇳🇱

Are you ready to use your engineering and environmental talent to answer complex and challenging questions related to sediment dynamics for clients all over the world? And do you have a strong affinity with modelling complex flows, sediment dynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)? Then we have thé vacancy for you!

What can you expect as junior sediment dynamics modeller

As junior sediment dynamics modeller with focus on CFD modelling you will be part of our department of Ecosystems and Sediment Dynamics. Together with approx. 24 enthusiastic professionals, you will be working on various coastal sediment dynamics projects. We combine concrete practical relevance with high quality standards by continuous development of state-of-the-art knowledge and techniques. We do this together with our clients and knowledge partners.

Your main activities are to:

  • Use, validate and develop numerical CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) models for detailed sediment-water simulations for dredging and offshore wind applications;
  • Use large-scale, shallow water models (e.g. Delft3D);
  • Participate in laboratory experiments to improve our knowledge and validate (CFD) numerical models;
  • Provide specialist advice as well as do research in the field of sediment dynamics (cohesive and non-cohesive sediment; interaction ecology-morphology; interaction fluid mechanics and morphodynamics);
  • Cooperate in a team with different backgrounds and nationalities;
  • You communicate your findings in understandable language. You write reports, prepare presentations for clients and, if applicable, publish your work in relevant journals and give presentations at conferences.
