The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.  This position sits in the Aquatic Ecosystems Branch, in the Water, Fisheries, and Coastal Policy Planning Division of WLRS.  

This position is within the Aquatic Ecosystems Branch in the Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship.  This position is the lead expert in wetland biology and management for WLRS. 

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in biological sciences or related plus 3 years of wetland management experience including related experience in each of the items listed below
  • OR and equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.
  • 3 years of related experience in of each of the following:
    • Experience interpreting and applying environmental management legislation, regulations and policies related to wetlands.
    • Experience developing environmental management guidance, policy, or regulation.
    • Experience in wetland biology
    • Experience conducting public consultation processes dealing with environmental management issues including wetlands.
    • Experience working on collaborative management projects with First Nations partners.
    • Experience leading provincial wide projects.
    • Experience leading project planning sessions to determine project scope, define deliverables, develop charters, lead project staff and pursue funding.
       

PROVIOS:

  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • May require the operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Conducts field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
